Ryan McGinness

On Saturday, we went to the Ryan McGinness art exhibit at Montserrat Art College in Beverly. After seeing his work in person, his website cannot do him justice. I was completely blown away. Everything from the colors, to the subjects, to the interaction he creates with his art was amazing. His technique is, for lack of a better word, cool. He layers stencils on top of each other in a somewhat thoughtful manner that doesn't manage to distract you. It draws you in and makes you want to explore every inch of the paintings, wall art, soccer balls, etc.

There was a family there with us with two small boys and it was so refreshing to see the Mom and Dad showing the kids around the gallery, explaining what certain objects represent and asking the kids for their interpretation. My pictures can't even give the full impression of the exhibit because it is truly something to experience in person, in 3-D (or is it 2-D?). Anyway, if a Ryan exhibits comes to your town and you want your world to be rocked, you will make a point of going.

... if you can't wait
